General Discussion / Thought for the Day.
« on: December 11, 2011, 11:01:13 PM »
Folks ---

On days that are most positive for me, it seem that some salient thought for the day gives me guidance and challenge.

Let's start giving each other some standard to achieve each day.

My first submission is, frankly, not aspirational.  It clearly is not original to me.  I am an admitted plagarist.  It is something that gave me some pause and let's permit it to be the base from which we can all take flight.

Years ago someone sent me a fax, when faxes were in vogue.  For some reason the thought was meaningful to me and permitted me not only to evaluate that day's situation but also showed me things could be better.

The story:  There once was a noncomformist Blue Bird, who refused to follow the rest of the flock South for the Winter.

All was well until about February, when it became so cold that he could not remain alone and prevail in life.

While flying one day in February, his wings iced up, and he could no longer maintain his loft.

He fluttered to the ground in a barnyard and was about to freeze to death, when by chance a cow wandered by and happened to crap on  him.

At that point he was warmed, felt better, revived, and let out a pleasant chirp.

The barnyard cat heard his call, and went to investigate, found him and immediately grabbed him and ate him.

The lessons:  1.  The person who craps on you is not necessarily your enemy;
2. The person who saves you from the crap is not necessarily your friend; and
3.  If you are warm and happy in a pile of crap, keep your mouth shut!

Sincerely,

Mary Harkins

Gibson County History / Nostalgia

Friends  --

On another forum of blog, some folks took exception to something I wrote a year or so ago.

Today's Courier had a column by Professor John Gottcent about the old days.  It was actually put online on November 23, but was not in the print edition until today.

It would appear that Ole Toad Sutton was not the only merchant who carefully wrapped in butcher paper feminine items such as Kotex, condominiums, and the like.
